The question "Why?"
As I read Bud the Teachers blog about "why", it made me realize how much I ask why? It also made me realize that the question why is very important to keep in mind while teaching. Students are going to want to know why they are learning something or why something is the way it is. Teachers should keep in mind while teaching to answer the why questions students may have. I don't think any person can ask the question why? too many times! So, don't get frustrated when a student asks the question why, encourage it!

I never would have thought about how many time I ask why now but I know that was my favorite word when I was younger and completely drove my parents nuts. I never would have thought that one word, a question would drive someone insane as I did to my mother, but going into teaching I completely agree with you that that one word can expand one's knowledge
ReplyDeleteThis question is sooo important! I'm glad you posted this. I can't remember how many times I have asked why, and how many times I've heard this same question being asked. More often than not, I have heard some type of response in the lines of "just because." It is really important that we as educators can and do offer a reply that is meaningful to our students. Like you said, asking why may become annoying at times but it really is a question worth asking!
